I am an RN and I am against the Affordable Care Act (ACA) because I believe that we can have a better and much more competitive health insurance program, with a choice of health insurance providers and types of insurance available. However, I do not believe that the regulation for allowing preexisting conditions should be removed. The top plans should still provide for the allowance of preexisting conditions. The lowest plans would be catastrophic health care, with or without the preexisting condition option. And there should be plans available in between. That way, the customer can decide what kind of coverage they want. In addition, I want to see coverage for complications from smoking use, as well as drug and alcohol abuse be eliminated because other Americans should not have to pay for those people who foolishly decide to take poison, which is what smoking, illegal drugs, and alcohol are. Those born before, say 2025, should be helped to get them off these poisons and minimize their health impact, but as of a certain birthdate, say, 2025, everyone born from that point on would be cut off from such insurance coverage unless they want to pay for an additional insurance rider that covers them for coverage from complications directly resulting from that type of abusive use. In addition, I also believe that all children should be covered up through age 24 on their parents' plan. I also believe that anyone born with a chronic, serious genetic disorder should be covered for free. Health insurance should not be free for anyone; all should have to pay a co-pay per service based on what insurance plan they choose. We also could allow for modest tax credits for those living below the poverty level. But all able-bodied people below the age of 65 should have to work a minimum amount of hours per year to be allowed to fully participate in the healthcare system. Those from age 45 to 65 should have to pay a larger copay if their doctor declares they are unable to work unless their doctor declares that they are 100% unable to work. That's my opinion on the subject and I believe its a fair and good one.
