Aside from cost of living increases, yes auto pay increases should be eliminated from Congress, with one stipulation... if they successfully improve the economic health (min wages, increase jobs, lower healthcare, improve trade relations, lower deficit, increase taxes on the wealthy, etc.) of their state’s citizens, they could be eligible for automatic SPOT bonuses, commensurate with the effect on their constituents...a little help gets a little bonus. More help gets more bonuses. Put their KPIs on a public leaderboard so the whole state knows whether they are working or just punching a clock.
Also, they can be given a raise, based on performance in office, by a referendum vote, up to a federal cap.
These bonuses and raises should only be approved by the whole state, and not just people in their district. This could be a check and balance to help keep the congresspersons objective, and the benefits balanced.
The only special interest group our representatives should be worried about are the citizenry.
