The Constitution should be amended to allow members of Congress to serve only one six-year term in the Senate or one two-year term in the House. The President should also be limited to serving one four-year term. No one would be permitted to run for any other office while serving in the Congress or as President. This is to prevent them from using one elected office as a springboard to another. An elected official would thus be required to spend their time in office concentrating on that office to which they were elected, and not on reelection or election to a different office. Currently it is estimated that they spend as much as 90 percent of their time on reelection and the remaining time on the actual business of the country. They also spend too much time jockeying for positions on various committees. Maybe we should also make the positions in Congress part-time as they were originally, since it seems they are in recess, on vacation, or traveling to and from home on Fridays and Mondays.
