I say no to this proposal, because it's a red herring. This reeks of Congress wanting to use Social Security as a political football, so that if agreement can't be reached on a budget (which Congress used to be able to do) one side can either accuse the other of cutting SS or of further increasing US debt. SS is not -- I repeat, not -- an entitlement program. We have all paid into it and it belongs to us. Despite various machinations, it is one of the more solvent long term government programs we have. We relatively recent fixes, it's even more so. Stop fear mongering over it, stop threatening it, stop playing political games with it. Congress, do your job and stop trying to one up each other.
