Abortion is health care. Period.
The only reason abortions aren’t completely free is because men don’t need abortion care. If they did, abortions would be easier to access than a flu shot.
No legislator or other government official has the right to bully me—or any other person with a womb—into any specific decision about my fertility, pregnancy or my family.
The people most impacted by my advocacy for and access to contraceptive and abortion care are my young children. Without my access to health care, their quality of life would be immeasurably lower and their chance at a lifetime of happiness would by greatly diminished. Their parent would have been unable to access higher education and would not have had the chance to establish expertise in her career before experiencing the professional “motherhood penalty” that will cost them over a million dollars in family income because of discrimination in employment.
The aspect that most “pro-life” Americans fail to grasp is that abortions have been occurring since the beginning of humanity. They always have, and always will.
The only aspect of abortion care that the government can really control is whether those abortions will be safe and regulated, or whether they will be a death sentence. I don’t think it’s at all “pro-life” to cut off access to safe health care in order to put more mothers, sisters and daughters at risk of death and trauma.
