Isn't assault already a crime? Why does it have to be a federal crime? This shows a lack of understanding as to what level of legislation is appropriate for certain things. There is a reason why murder is a state law. There are laws against murder in every state. That does not mean that it should be a federal law, just because it is, to some degree, universal. I don't see why assault is some sort of special thing that requires federal involvement. Especially making this a federal law only when it is committed against people of a certain, particular profession. This is the exact opposite of the designed balance between freedom and equality.
