It’s come to my attention that you’ve recently voted “No” on a resolution negating the declaration of Border Security as a National Emergency. As a constituent, I believe that this is a gross overstep of the constitutional powers of the President’s Office. It’s a clean circumvention of the progression of law, infringes upon our right to representation, and progresses partisan politics. Our Presidents should not be allowed to use executive powers to push agendas, as laws are to created strictly by representatives of the people. Frankly, this is a shortcut of our democratic process, and opens the door to further egregious violations and abuse of office. This, in an of itself, does not touch on the legitimacy of the crisis at the border - rather the legitimacy of the use of the President’s Post to enforce legislation and create power through a National Emergency. The issue is not the fact, it is the process. And I believe the process should be respected.
