YES AND NO
This is a very misleading and dubious question as these public/ private partnerships are already established and funded by the current administration.
The NRIC ( Nuclear Innovation Capabilities Act) was signed by Trump in 2018 and money has already been disbursed via GAIN (Gateway for Accelerated Innovation).
Private/Public linkages go back decades in probably 20 countries with dozens in the US such as Dominion Resources, Duke Energy, GE/Hitachi Westinghouse and Nuclear Fuel Services.
Whether we like it or not, in order to design and build newer and safer nuclear technologies such as ADS, GFR, VHTR, MSR etc the above partnerships will probably expand.
- Do I support expanded public/ private partnerships for current technology and fuels- NO
- Do I support public/ private partnerships for new safer technology and shorter waste/ storage fuels- YES
*** As each nuclear disaster is more destructive and deadly than the previous one and governments response becomes more inadequate and costly, a conversation and acceptance by the people for whether nuclear energy should proceed or stopped must occur.
