As a lifetime cat lover, the thought of this is tough to stomach. However, it is true that performing experiments on animals can ultimately lead to better medical treatment for humans. That being said, strict rules must be in place. The kittens must be born in the laboratory for the sole purpose of experimentation. The scientist must obtain government approval by providing clear and convincing proof, in writing, that such experimentation is necessary, will ultimately produce a positive outcome, and that there are no other alternatives (such as using mice or rats instead).
