Voting is the right of every US citizen. It is also the most Constitutionally protected right we have; no fewer than four amendments specifically grant and protect our right to vote. New citizens should be encouraged to vote at the earliest opportunity. And for those who expressed doubts that new citizens have had time to “assimilate” properly, please do your homework. Citizenship takes years to attain and requires passing a test to demonstrate understanding of our laws and government. If you’re still not convinced, I invite you to take the citizenship test yourselves, as that may help you better understand our nation’s founding principles.
