Please vote no on rapid DNA testing. As a molecular biologist who analyzes DNA on almost a daily basis, I worry about the accuracy of these tests and the possibility for abuse of such tests. These tests could also be highly biased. If the officer collecting DNA is also analyzing the results, there is a factor of blindness that has been removed from the testing leaving too much room for bias. The DNA could also easily be contaminated with other DNA and such tests should be left to experts (i.e. forensic scientists). If DNA is to be collected, it should be done in the most accurate, non-biased, careful manner. While progress in this type of technology is exciting, this is not an appropriate use of tools that can be used to determine the fate of someone's life - these things should not be taken lightly.
