Only doctors and their female patients should be able to determine whether a woman should have an abortion, not someone's pocketbook. Without this federal funding, women will still have abortions, but they will do so illegally with greater danger. These risks could lead to complex medical procedures which will be covered by insurance, thus still taking money out of the government. Furthermore, studies show that women who want to have an abortion and do have much better mental health than those who chose to give up children for adoption or have the baby and live in poverty. Lastly, many women who want abortions are under the age of 21 and often require federal financial assistance. If they get pregnant and can't have an abortion, our government will be further burdened by Medicaid and CHIP.
