This bill would allow state or local law enforcement that are partnering with a federal agency in investigations of missing or exploited children to access tax information under certain circumstances. A federal court order would be necessary for the information to be released.

Tax information obtained for an investigation could only be used to locate a missing child, in a grand jury, preparation for judicial or administrative proceedings. Under current law, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is prohibited from providing the information to law enforcement.
