I recently read that historically all political candidates had one week before the vote to campaign. That would be an incredibly positive paradigm shift. It would considerably lessen the cost of the campaign as well as stop lobbyists, and wealthy individuals or companies from influencing candidates based on their own agenda. Web sites could be the marketing tool for each candidate along with a comment field for authorized taxpayers to ask constructive and respectful questions about the candidates' qualifications or on specific topics that are faced by our nation. Encourage taxpayers to select yes on the $3 donation to fund the presidential campaign on our tax forms or even increase it to $10. No one party would have what is in the fund until the primaries. The fund would then be split 4 ways IF that won't do then at least add a field on the candidates' website that lists the contributor and the amount they gave towards their campaign. The past election got out of hand and each election gets more cutthroat. What positive message was sent about our leaders' integrity? I got so tired of seeing ads everywhere and watching them on television. We sent a very aggressive and insensitive message to our children about our political leaders. Respect is becoming a lost character trait as people attack each other on all levels. No wonder we have an angry or toxic display when it comes to character traits of our democracy.
