Legislation is usually leaps behind technological advancement and this is no exception. How privacy is achieved and maintained is changing as science and science moves forward. The government should not use such technology to observe its citizens as this could lead violations with the 4th amendment involving incrimination. Corporations should not abuse such technology without a user's knowledgeable consent, but this is an action that the average consumer would have no knowledge of it happening or while they are conducting they're lives. With no ability to trust corporations to uphold privacy and no ability to check if they actually are, there needs to be legislation ensuring that consumers are protected.
