This should be an option for all. Having been employed by a public school system as Head Custodian for 9 years until I quit, comp time used to be an option for the custodial department until budget cuts came to education and facilities department was hit hard. Comp time was paid out at time and a half if not used buy a certain time, and there were rules in place to protect the employee. We were reminded to use our comp time which was still paid out as time and a half when we used it as vacation or other leave time. We were not jipped on our overtime. We got jipped when comp time was done away with due to budget cuts. All the overtime that we had been willing to put in stopped because we were now getting micromanaged and overworked more than before. The people who keep America running, who are putting in the extra hours to make sure deadlines are accomplished, whose family time is sacrificed, whose health is suffering, and don't always have sufficient compensation should have the option to take comp time.
