The Guantanamo Bay detention center is not a protector of human rights but rather a destroyer of them. Indefinitely detaining and illegally torturing individuals invites racial and cultural prejudice, perpetuates international schisms and violates the very constitution upon which America was founded. We may not partake in illegal and morally and internationally destructive acts as a nation simply because we suspect others may also be involved in certain illegal activities. We may not torture, water board, detain and otherwise dehumanize as a mechanism of addressing equally barbaric behaviors (or suspicions of behaviors) of others, for doing so validates anti-American sentiments and erases any moral distinctions between international terrorists and the American government. On top of all international implications associated with the continued use of Guantanamo Bay, it is simply is illogical - and costly to the American taxpayer.
