Suppressors reduce the sound of a gun to around 115-130 decibels. Here is a handy list of things and their decibel levels: Tea kettle 80 dB. Heavy traffic 85 dB. Shouted conversation 90 dB. Lawn mower 95 dB. Car horn 110 dB. Chain saw 120 dB. Air raid siren 130dB. Right now criminals can build and use suppressors...we are talking about aluminum tubes with baffles people. Normal gun owners just don’t want to put up with the additional expense, intensive background check, and legal hassle to own suppressors. Again, criminals can build these things right now. This law isn’t going to change criminal behavior, but it will stop penalizing the most law abiding citizens in the country for no reason at all. Chainsaws are quieter than suppressed rifles. Have you ever had a hard time identifying generally if and where a chainsaw was being used?
