I feel like this is a no brained. People have the right to health and happiness, and I do not think that is possible if you have no home to live in or are using all of your income to pay for a mortgage or rent. But we also need to address the larger problem that working wages are not enough to support families. We had a society where one income could support a family and a mom or dad could stay home and take care of their children. We do not have that anymore. Two incomes can barely support a household now for the average family. Families are having to send their children to daycare and pay more out of pocket. Workers used to be respected and appreciated for what they contributed to the company’s success. There is a lot going wrong with the trust businesses to do what is right idea. That policy resulted in stagnant wages, lost benefits, less vacation and stress at work due to streamlining the workforce. We have no voice to advocate for workers because the business owners successfully painted all unions as corrupt. Point is, if you leave those making the money in charge and assume they will do what is best for everyone without regulations, then you will be waiting a long time for the first time that happens.
