"Government isn't a business it shouldn't make a profit" or "what happens in an emergency" are the fiscal liberals ammunition to combat stupidity with stupidity. A balanced budget isn't generating a profit but doing exactly that attempting to estimate what government revenues are and not spending more than that. The reality is we should be working on spending less and paying down a debt that will break at an unknown point in the future. Not having a balanced budget and spending more than you make, reduces he ability of the government to have excess debt raising ability to pay for emergency situations. So breaking it down for the stupid: If you have maxed out credit cards and a mortgage you couldn't afford on a house too big for your income and the 2 ACs go out in a Texas summer... that is an emergency and you don't have the ability to pay for it. Sweating yet?
