The wall is nothing more than the result of fear mongering and a political ploy. A small fraction of the amount of money it would take to build a wall across the entire boarder could be spent to add more cost effective security methods. With the remainder, we could add funds to our deprived education system. Education is the most underfunded government program and it is the most important. We could better educate our current population, and we could educate our immigrant population so they have a chance to contribute to the best of their ability. Republicans are always spreading fear of “rising crime,” but crime mostly results in poverty stricken areas where the education is the worst. District lines are drawn specifically to give our more privileged citizens better early education, especially in urban areas. In some cases, it could actually be considered systemic racism. If we want a more productive immigrant society, lower crime rates, and a less ethnocentric experience in our school systems, then we need to take that money and invest it in our education.
