I want my Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Pete Sessions to use scientific research to argue against this bill that would allow states to prevent Medicaid funding to go to medical providers whose services include performing abortions. Limiting resources, especially to basic needs such as healthcare, will only create more obstacles for struggling families to beat the system of poverty. Support for this bill punishes innocent families as they already struggle to navigate working, childcare expenses, putting nutritious food on the table, keeping a roof above their heads, and future family planning (or prevention of having more children). Abortion should be a medical decision between a mother and her doctor-- a decision not to be interfered with by the government. Unless politicians are prepared to create and implement adequate support and services for women and families after children are born (such as mandatory paid parental leave, expanded healthcare, access to inexpensive contraception, etc.), limiting access to abortion should not even be considered. I urge you, Senator Cruz, Senator Cornyn, and Senator Sessions, to please fight for affordable access to healthcare for all people.
