Though the intent is good, this bill shows a gross misunderstanding of the global oil markets. The US produces light grade crude oil which we export to other countries that have less sophisticated refineries. The US is a refining powerhouse which highly sophisticated refineries that are built to handle heavy grade crude that we import from other countries and then export the refined product. Stopping the export of crude oil doesn’t improve energy security and actually limits the US from being a competitor in global markets.
