Yes, but this supercomputer needs to be kept in check by strict laws and regulation, and perhaps a civilian oversight committee. We are behind in the technical arena and we need a strong computer to put us back ahead of the game, ahead of our foreign and domestic enemies. The powers that a supercomputer would provide our government with would need to be kept in control. Just look at what they're trying to do right now with forcing Apple to build in a backdoor into iPhones and iOS. It is despicable and a violation of our civil rights. Supercomputer would make violating our civil rights much easier for the government, so this current case really highlights the importance of regulation, transparency, and strong oversight. Let's also ensure that AI is created in such a way that prevents it from becoming self aware. We don't need the machines rebelling. I'm not joking or paranoid - it's a real possibility once they get intelligent enough.
