Empirical evidence throughout our country's history has proven that prohibition of drugs is neither effective nor efficient. The number of Marijuana users in the United States continues to grow, the use of the drug not only for medicinal but recreational purposes continues to become more widely acceptable. The criminalization of marijuana is a drain on law enforcement resources and prohibits us from accessing new potential revenue streams. The reasonable economic solution is to legalize marijuana, tax it, regulate it and generate additional income. It's a simple business equation; why spend money (criminalize) on something that can make you money (legalize).
