No one person should have the power to launch a nuclear first strike. A retaliatory strike, maybe. Even Truman, prior to dropping the original nuclear bombs, publicly warned Japan to surrender. The concept of a 'surprise' nuclear strike is the fantasy of a mad man, as it would ensure mutually assured destruction. Even if we completely destroyed our enemies and our nation escaped unscathed, the resulting social, economic, and environmental impact will harm the our country and the entire human race for generations.
