The AMA should advocate for more education to physicians, not getting political. Politics and trends has nothing to do with education or experience. No program, business or other entity should tell a physician how to be a Doctor. Hospitals and ER’s Doctors are aware of what is available and works when appropriate. The opioid crisis is coming much from the street from drugs coming into Mexico from oversees. And we have an element of crime who steal needed prescribed drugs or people who gain them fraudulently to sell. Ever watched Made in America with Tom Cruise? That’s based on a true story of cocaine coming into Mena, Arkansas. What happened to the Methamphetamine crisis? What about the other hard drugs on the streets? Enable the police and DA’s to investigate and prosecute the cases of “stolen” meds! It’s so numerous they ignore it. People who have prescriptions regardless of type - get a lockbox with can mob and key lock and bolt it to your wall in your room. Lock your doors. Everyone needs to be responsible. I guarantee you - no congressman with severe pain wants prescribed a drug that doesn’t work because the ER Doctor feels pressured to prescribe an “alternative” when one is clearly not appropriate Edie silly since many hospitals are making Doctors their employees. Point is, Doctors go to school to know what’s best for their patients, not government, business or other officials and interested parties. What’s this really about? Where’s the money going to eventually? I agree people with severe pain need adequate relief just as much is as appropriate as one would for a hospice patient where that is a primary concern fir quality of life and we need better ways to measure pain, however, don’t add to the crime with a needless program that’s setup to fail and waste my tax dollars. Dr.’s already know what meds are. Everyone needs more education and safety practices. We didn’t used to have so many disabled. The baby boomers are getting old. Most studies show in drug court rehabilitation programs that people steal and/or get drugs from their grandparents or parents- truth! Lock that stuff up and don’t kid yourself. People are ruthless, and so are those poised to make money off this problem so be careful where you place your decisions. I think this is the interest of politics and other tax payers dollars will be lost on the next persons great idea for a test program. Humans are not guinea pigs. We are all, including the government without money to waste. Let’s be sure of what we’re doing and let the Doctors do their jobs. Educate patients and allow more testing to be done one medical marijuana for pain. Medical marijuana is not the same as recreational. Do the right thing. Don’t be hasty just because we have a problem. This program is a cheap bandaid on a chest wound. More studies and education and experience needs put into this. It’s not worth our people and taxpayers suffering in pain as well as suffering from the effects of having they’re dollars wasted in taxes, out of pocket cost and their insurance dollars on a costly “what if”. IMO.
