There 's an unfairness to renters buried in their rent payments. Think about it. Out of whose pocket does the real estate tax payment come? The owner of the property only passes the tax payment through. The money comes from the renter's wallet. The renter should get the property tax deduction. But the
reality is that the owner is getting extra, undeserved profit from the renter's tax payment. While I believe, as many in this conversation point out, that landlords might very well raise rents if my proposal or this law were put in place -- greed does rule, doesn't it -- over time I think that would level out. In addition, market competition, if there is such in an area, would help keep rents within reason. Whatever is done, it's time we help our young and all who cannot afford to buy homes.
