Someone needed to stand up to the powerful gun lobby and take steps towards sensible gun regulations that respect Second Amendment rights. I wish the Congress had the wherewithal and conviction to take concerted action in favor of sensible gun control. Such action would have renewed my dwindling faith our government's ability to do things which improve the quality of our lives. But alas, they did not. So the President did. It's funny how reasonable regulations that in no way abridge ones ability to purchase and own a firearm are not okay, but regulations (Patriot Act) that eviscerate the Bill of Rights are fine. What are people thinking? With the Patriot Act, no one need have a shred of evidence to indefinitely imprison without charges, search and seize without probable cause. There's no right to trial, jury, counsel, confront accusers, no due process of any kind. Much harder to exercise your Second Amendment rights then.
