Although these are, of course, all basic human needs and rights, this idea of a constitutional amendment spelling It out is difficult for me for two reasons. One, the Constitution already states “to provide for the general welfare” of its citizens. The problem being, so many people have been brainwashed to believe that it’s okay if people (other than themselves, natch) are homeless, hungry and abused. It isn’t okay, and at first glance, this possible amendment seems exactly right. However, two, there are so many opportunists that will find a way to abuse it. Either because it’s “all about the money” for them, or because “I can let the government take care of it”. Mostly I fear the former, who would do exponentially more damage than the latter.
