This resolution would recognize June as “LGBTQ Pride Month.” It would also express the Senate’s support for the LGBTQ community on a number of relevant issues described in greater detail below.

Specifically, this resolution would:

Express the Senate’s support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people’s rights, freedoms and equal treatment in the U.S. and around the world;
Acknowledge that LGBTQ rights are human rights that should be protected by the U.S. Constitution and numerous international treaties and conventions;
Support efforts to ensure that equal treatment of all people in the U.S., regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity;
Support efforts to ensure that the U.S. remains a beacon of hope for people’s equal treatment around the world (including LGBTQ individuals); and
Encourage June’s celebration as “LGBTQ Pride Month” to provide people in the U.S. a lasting opportunity to 1) learn about the discrimination and inequality that the LGBTQ community endured and continues to endure and 2) celebrate the LGBTQ community’s contributions throughout U.S. history.

As a simple resolution, this legislation is non-binding and wouldn’t advance beyond the Senate if passed.
