I only knew a couple of teachersI would have felt safe around if they had a firearm, and they were the sam people whom would have been all but worthless the event of a situation in which it would be needed. Not only does it not co tribute to a feeling of a safe and open learning environment, it is a bad idea to introduce any weapon to school grounds unless he individual carrying it is trained to have it, protect it, when and how to make use of it- in other words, a certified Police Officer. It is like the knitting needles on an airplane; I'm not worried about Grandma doing anything with them except for knitting. I'm worried about the guy with ill-intent counting on her having them so he can take them from her and use them for whatever he wants. Same with a firearm in schools.
