Reforming student loans would be a laudable goal, but free tuition is going too far. Cheaper tuition does seem reasonable and I would support more government subsidy toward that end. However, I would do so only if it were possible for that extra money not to then allow colleges and universities to spend more on non-education expenses (i.e. sports). Also, free tuition would make sense if all of the gains from higher education accrued to society at-large, but that is not the case. The personal gains from higher education are substantial and the person gaining from that education should have some skin in the game, if less than they do now.
