This would be the perfect antidote to the many voter suppression laws that the GOP have been trying to pass in their individual legislatures. Along with curbing dark money and adding greater transparency in our elections, it would make sure that no one could run for office without passing ethical guidelines of showing tax returns, like Donald Trump did. We need to require more qualifications of our office holders so that they actually know something about the Constitution they all swear to uphold, and this would do that. Let the Senate add their two cents to this and reach whatever compromise we can to pass this thing, so that we never have another public figure who does the unthinkable and gets by on the theory that as President they are above the law. I would also shorten the time period for an election, so that people cannot start raising money for their next election right after winning the one, effectively making it a 4-year campaign. Raising money should not be what our leaders are about, and I fear this has become the case. Please pass this much needed legislation, especially to honor the memory of John Lewis and the reinstatement of the Voting Rights Act.
