H.R. 114 mandates that the U.S. Embassy in Israel be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by January 1, 2017.

The bill limits expenditures in the 2015 fiscal year for other “acquisition and maintenance of buildings abroad” until the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has officially opened. The bill states that necessary funds from the 2015 and 2016 fiscal years, respectively, should be allocated to the construction and establishment of this embassy.

The bill also makes it U.S. policy to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. H.R. 114 requires official U.S. documents that list countries and their capital cities to identify Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The bill further asserts that every Israeli citizen should have the right to live anywhere in the undivided city.
