This bill is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It looks on surface like it will help patients, by letting states dole out money to them instead of the current programs that reimburse for care, but in actuality, if you read it fully and carefully, it will drastically restrict care. As an example: I work as an RN in a Skilled Rehab/Long Term Care/Assisted Living facility, and a large number, in fact, probably most in Long Term Care) depend on Maine Care for payment for their care. These are people who have worked hard all their lives, but did not make a lot of money, and were not able to have a lot of money set aside for their old age. In addition, many MaineCare younger recipients live in families where single parents or both parents work full time (often at more than one job) at low wages, and can't make ends meet as it is.
