This resolution would condemn North Korea’s provocative testing of its military’s nuclear and missile capabilities while violating the human rights of its people, and call on the North Korean government to completely abandon such programs in a verifiable manner.

It would further emphasize U.S. commitments to nuclear deterrence and the protection of its allies Japan and South Korea, which are backed up by the full spectrum of America’s defensive military capabilities.

The government of China would be asked to use its economic and diplomatic leverage over North Korea to encourage the nation to stop its nuclear weapons program.

Additionally, the resolution would call on the United Nations Security Council to increase sanctions on North Korea because of its nuclear weapons program.

As a simple resolution, this legislation wouldn’t have the force of law and wouldn’t be sent to the House for a vote if it were to pass the Senate.
