This bill — the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA) — would designate certain National Forest System land and certain public land under the Secretary of the Interior’s jurisdiction in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming as federally designated wilderness, wild and scenic rivers, wildland recovery areas and biological connecting corridors.

Specifically, this bill would:

Designate over 23 million acres of ecosystems and watersheds in the Northern Rockies as wilderness;
Connect natural, biological corridors to ensure the continued existence of native plants and animals and mitigate global warming’s effects;
Restore habitat that’s been severely managed by road construction, creating over 2,300 jobs in the process and building a more sustainable economic base in the Northern Rockies region;
Keep water available for downstream ranchers and farmers until it’s most needed; and
Eliminate subsidized development in the designated wilderness area, saving taxpayers $245 million over a 10-year period.

An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
