All members of Congress should get a pension like all Federal employees. CSRS is a dying system as it was replaced by FERS in the 1980s. FERS is a defined benefit plan but provides a much lower benefit than the older CSRS. To supplement FERS, there is TSP which is the government equivalent of a 401k. Members of Congress do sacrifice a lot to serve and providing a pension is one way of showing our appreciation for their service. I sort of look at this as similar to our military and the sacrifices they make to serve. As retired federal employees, I do not see major differences from my wife and mine retirement benefits. When elected they became federal employees. All of the above is said irrespective of the sorry state of our current Congress. If you dont like your current representatives vote them out but when the replacements are elected, they deserve a retirement plan.
