That this is even being debated is a prime example of what is wrong with capitalism. It reveals that insurance is more about making a profit than helping people in need. I say we take the companies out of the equation and replace them with an algorithm. Everyone pays in, the algorithm determines whether to approve or deny claims, and only takes for itself the money needed to operate; everything else goes to people in need. I’m sure that’s how it will be eventually, but for now let’s at least push for universal healthcare legislation, so we no longer have to try to explain to people on the Right why it’s bad to let people suffer and die in order to maximize profits.
