Absentee ballots are designed for those who are not able to physically appear at a voting booth. In the previous election I lived in the Philippines during the election therefore had a valid excuse. I still had to be registered in the state i had lived in and had to show up at the US consulate to give them my ballot so I could prove who I am. The problem with this election is that the ballots are simply being sent to everyone. This election is likely going to be a huge mess. Either party could claim fraud if they lose the election. Who knows whether ballots will be intercepted by foreign agents who would vote in their interests instead of the US citizens. If they want to give everyone absentee ballots than they should only send ballots to those who are registered. Better yet they should create a voting machine that allows people to vote via computer. All one would need to do is sign up with the website, upload document that would prove they are eligible to vote and they would be provided a password and asked to choose a username. If people need help to set up an account they can have a government agent appear at their home to assist them. This would allow people to vote either at the booth, work, or at home and assure that only those eligible to vote are allowed to vote. As a Plus every year one would be asked to reregister and to update their information.
