The GOP wants to make sure our most vulnerable children remain uneducated and unhealthy. Funds under the ESEA are distributed to schools that are in need to ensure that there is equal access to education for all students, especially low-income students, as well as minorities, students with disabilities, etc. The problem with repealing ESEA is that this takes away funds from low-income schools and children that need it, and doesn't take in account that in many places, there are no other choices except for the local public school, especially in rural and high-poverty areas. In addition, for many children, especially in poverty, meals provided by the schools are the only meals they get, and they want to scrap whatever healthy choices are available.
