This bill would make the North American bison the national mammal of the United States. It also describes the importance of the bison in American history for Native American tribes, ranchers, and conservationists. The bald eagle would remain the national animal.

Other than designating the bison as the national mammal, this legislation specifies that it shouldn’t be used as a reason to modify any plan, policy, management decision, regulation, or any other action of the federal government.
