Eliminating tuition from public universities does not eliminate the costs of the university, which means the student will still be paying for their degree through taxes directly and indirectly. A better solution would be increase accountability of public university expenditures to ensure resources are being used wisely and efficiently to better the learning environment of students, and investing more in community and technical schools so less people will feel that they "must" go to a four-year university to get a job, which will increase retention rates at universities and better society as a whole.
