I prefer congressional resolutions to sanctions. It is a way to signal our country’s endorsement of a two state solution to the ongoing Israeli Palestinian conflict - as well as our resolve to consider the impact of reaching this peaceful resolution, of all pertinent related legislative actions. It gives our diplomats a US position to work with and a focus for diplomatic efforts. In general, I prefer this way to assure that our government’s position is understood so diplomatic solutions are possible and other issues are better understood before we choose to resort to sanctions or other overt means of meddling with other country’s business. Of course, we will need to eliminate spontaneous world consequential decisions and governance by rage induced 2:00 AM tweets.
