Yes, they must- his comments were directed at duly elected American citizens who represent their constituents- who have every right to challenge his policies. I personally believe that supporting Trump’s policies is anti-American and I have the constitutional right to this belief- so do they. Just avoid the emotions that Trump is hoping to generate. Don’t let emotions trap anyone into saying anything that can be turned into a campaign “sound bite” to alienate swing voters. His cult has already drank his cool-aid and won’t change until he dismisses them when their votes are no longer needed. Hopefully, this will formally get impeachment inquiries started. A formal Impeachment process should open up blocked testimony and subpoenaed evidence- and let us all see who this man really is and not just what he has ‘marketed’ himself to be. I expect the McConnell led Senate to reject impeachment; So what? If the facts conclusively and publicly document Trump’s abuses of office, gross misrepresentations, willfully misleading of the public and/or criminal acts- let us, the American public decide the political future of Trump and those who have enabled him.
