“Thou shalt not kill” is a guiding principle in the faith of peoples of the Book: Jews, Christians, and Muslims. In good conscience, I cannot advocate for any element that places the life of the convict in peril. Taking the life of the perpetrator does not deter crime nor does it serve justice for the survivors of the victim. The issues that lead a person into a life of crime should be addressed: education, poverty, health, background. I’m officially a “senior” and I well remember repeated lessons concerning good citizenship. Is that even discussed in elementary schools any more? I cannot force anyone to abide by my “rules” but I believe we need to respect all of our brothers and sisters on the planet. We’re all made of the same stuff.
