It is absolutely necessary to retain a superpower military in the world we live in. We do not need to go back to the 80's YET, and spend 6.2 of our GDP on our military as we were trying to contain the Soviets who were spending 30% of their GDP. As advanced as our and others technology is, at the end of the day a robot cannot do everything. Boots on the ground, with human interaction is what solves problems. Violence also is not answer to all our problems with our enemies, and can create more problems than knowing when to use force and not. An example is our Aircraft Carries. They were sent to Haiti a few years back, and used as a portable emergency relief unit for those suffering. They can recycle salt water, and convert to fresh water. They can airlift a lot of emergency relief effort to those in need. Please vote on this, and tell lawmakers and policy makers to actually listen to those who don't sit behind a desk protected in Washington and listen to those who are the ones requesting air support under attack, those who have direct contact with our allies, and so forth. Retiring the A-10 (which has been withheld thank God) is an example of an idiotic idea on paper, and should have never been entertained for more F-35's that are not even fully operational or deployed. Stanley McCrystal, Petraeus and other very experienced Generals need to be listened to and not just heard. We need technology and advanced weaponry but not everything can be solved with technology.
