This bill — the EAGLES Act of 2019 — would create a national program focusing on school violence prevention, including expanding research and training on school violence and disseminating information on prevention initiatives. This bill would expand of the National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC), a safe school initiative, and government accountability for safe schools.

Expansion of NTAC

This bill would reauthorize and expand NTAC to conduct additional research and training to prevent targeted violence. It would also:

Permit NTAC to consult with outside entities on complex threat assessment cases or programs;
Facilitate information-sharing amongst agencies, as well as other public or private entities, on threat assessment and targeted violence prevention; and
Promote the development of best practices and standardization across all levels of government on threat assessment and prevention of targeted violence.

Safe School Initiative

This bill would establish a national program on targeted school violence prevention. Additionally, it would:

Provide funding to hire additional personnel to expand NTAC research and training on targeted school violence nationwide;
Require NTAC to develop a plan to execute the expansion of research and training nationwide; and
Authorize the creation of an interactive website to disseminate information and data on targeted school violence prevention.

Government Accountability

This bill would require the Secret Service to report on its implementation within two years of its enactment.

I fear that our legislators are more concerned about buffing their constituents than looking out for the long-term welfare of our country- and are way too eager to provide those short-term benefits to the “here-and-now” crowd.\nI fear that honor is generally being sacrificed/replaced by expediency. I hear politicians eloquently argue for one side of an issue and later, when it’s to their benefit, just as eloquently argue for the opposite side. OK, so they are good at arguing- but what is that they actually believe? What is it that they actually stand for? An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
