Statues are not there for people to "learn" from history. They are there to honor individuals. These are not honorable individuals, nor was their cause. They should be removed. Removing statues will not remove them from history, but it will make it clear that we don't consider them to be venerable. These individuals sought to create a different place than the United States of America. They wanted to continue unaccountable subjugation of a racial group. They don't need statues for us to know their history. They may have been effective leaders, perhaps they died for their cause, but that doesn't make them statue-worthy. The world is littered with despots, dictators, and monsters that could be construed as effective leaders who died for their cause, but we purposely toppled those statues (Hussein, Lenin, etc.) Confederate statues are topple-worthy too. Until we do, we will still be a nation that has not learned enough from our history. Please support this bill.
